STUDY OF ADJECTIVES
An adjective is a word that describes or clarifies a noun.
Adjectives describe by giving some information about size, shape, age, color, origin or material of nouns.
EXAMPLES :
I. It’s a big table. (size)
II. It’s a round table. (shape)
III. He’s an old man. (age)
IV. It’s a brown table. (color)
V. It’s an English table. (origin)
VI. It’s a wooden table. (material)
VII. It’s a lovely table. (opinion)
VIII. It’s a broken table. (observation)
IX. It’s a dining table. (purpose)
Adjectives end with these suffixes :
I. -able/-ible – understandable, capable, readable, incredible, adorable, invisible, responsible, uncomfortable, achievable, illegible, remarkable
II. -al – mathematical, functional, influential, chemical, educational, gradual, illegal, viral, biographical, functional, internal, logical
III. -an – American, Mexican, Indian,
IV. -ar – cellular, popular, spectacular, regular, curricular
V. -ent – intelligent, potent, silent, violent
VI. -ful – beautiful, needful, helpful, harmful, powerful, thoughtful, careful, grateful
VII. -ic – athletic, energetic, scientific, artistic, rustic, terrific, cubic, manic, rustic, terrific
VIII. -ical - magical, mathematical, technical, musical
IX. -ile – agile, docile, fertile, virile, fragile
X. -ive – submissive, intuitive, inventive, attractive, informative, native, talkative, dismissive, inventive, persuasive
XI -less- sleeveless, hopeless, groundless, restless, careless, endless, homeless, timeless, breathless,
XII. -ous – gorgeous, dangerous, adventurous, fabulous, cautious, enormous, malodorous, courageous, dangerous, disastrous
XIII. -some – awesome, handsome, lonesome, wholesome
XIV. -ine – feminine, masculine
